Copy a tile to use in the same webmix and keep the image

Did you know there is way to duplicate a tile that allows to have the same design or image? But you don’t have the original image or the exact same cropped image selection is not that easy to reproduce. With this simple trick you can copy your tiles in seconds:

Access the edit-tile menu and copy the tile
First, right click on the tile you want to duplicate and select “Copy / Move”

copy1

Select one of your webmixes as the temporary place for your tile, choose “I want to copy the tile” and click the orange “Move tile” button.

Note: Depending on the new link you enter, the tile creation menu sometimes displays the website logo in the tile preview on the top. If you ignore that and simply click “Save”, your tile design will remain the same as before, but with a different link and name.

Move tile back to original webmix

Now you can move your new tile back to the original webmix. You can either right click the tile and select “Copy / Move” again or drag it over the over the according webmix tab. Note: Drag & Drop over webmix tab is for moving, not copying.

Symbaloo iPhone app 2.0
Did you know that the Symbaloo iPhone app has been updated? Here you find out what’s new:

The Symbaloo iPhone app has over 100,000 downloads and a rating of 4.5 stars. We’re releasing a new iPhone app to aim for 5 stars ratings! Download or update the app today and let us know what you think!

app-US

☞ New look: The app is cleaner and sleaker

Screen-4

☞ Better use of the screen – More usability

The Symbaloo development & design team ensured that there is only one menu bar at the bottom of the app so you will no longer find the top bar. There is more space between your tiles to help you click on the tiles with ease.

Screen-1

☞ New colors for your favorite tiles
On your new Symbaloo app, you can now choose from 12 different colors for your tiles.

☞ New wallpapers
We have added some new backgrounds that fit well with the style of the app. The former are now no longer available. If you love your current wallpaper then we recommend not to change it. If you are you ready for something new, then have a look at the new wallpapers.

Screen-5

☞ Sorting your tiles

This feature is not new, but many people don’t know about this.  Shake your iPhone, and note that the tiles  ”vibrate”. You can then change their position. This can actually also be activated without shaking, click the menu icon (arrow) and then sort your tiles.

Screen-3

☝ iPad version

Symbaloo does not have an iPad app, and we’re not going to make one. The reason is that we want you work with your favorite browser on your tablet. We think it’s important that we create something that will work with all tablet browsers and therefore Symbaloo optimized the version for these browsers. It works out well with our current users. Previously, you could also install the Symbaloo iPhone app on your iPad. By clicking on the x2 button you got it in full screen. It doesn’t work as well as it should…so you should just stick with the optimized Symbaloo version on your browser.

Instead of an app we refer you to our tablet optimized version. You can use it by going to your favorite tablet browser (your choice!), enter www.symbaloo.com or edu.symbaloo.com and you get it automatically.

Tip: Turn on the link as an app icon on your home screen of your iPad! Then click “add to home screen” and you start Safari with Symbaloo right away. This includes all functionalities of Symbaloo!

Did you know that you can search through your own Symbaloo account for webmixes? Sometimes when you have a lot of webmixes or when you “x” a webmix off of the tab bar, it is difficult to find them again.

First, go to your search bar and select webmix from the drop down menu. (You can also search for tiles in our database as well as other users profiles using the search bar).

Did you know that, recently, Chrome and Firefox started to block embedded content with http and only allows https. This has been posing a problem for many Symbaloo-ers; however, you can still use Google Sites and other blogs blocking http, and this #ThursdayDidYouKnow will show you how.

First, after pressing the HTML button, paste your embed code into the main container. Once you press Save, it will look like this.

Then, there is a shield icon on the far right of the address bar (Firefox: far left) you can click, and select the “Load unsafe script” button.

Unlock Webmix in Free Accounts

Did you know that the lock symbol on your webmix signifies that you added the webmix to your account, and you are still receiving updates from the original creator? Today’s #ThursdayDidYouKnow will show you how you can unlock that webmix and begin making changes of your own.

If you have a lock on a webmix, you are not able to edit tiles or delete them, which can be problematic with a webmix that you want to customize as your own.

The first step is to press the Share button at the top of the screen. In the side bar, press the Stop Updates button.

Now, your webmix is unlocked and you can make changes. However, note that you will no longer receive updates from the original creator.
